Michael D. “Mickey” Ricketts

Michael D. “Mickey” Ricketts has more than eight years of experience as an intellectual property litigator with a focus on patent infringement litigation. Mickey has represented plaintiffs and defendants in patent and trademark matters across the country in a wide range of industries, including 3D computer graphics, augmented reality, digital content delivery, GPS-based asset tracking, clothing manufacturing, and hand tools. Before joining Skiermont Derby, LLP, Mickey was a senior associate for a Dallas-based patent litigation boutique. He has experience in all aspects of patent litigation, from pre-suit investigation to pre-trial matters, including discovery, motions practice, fact witness depositions, and engaging and working with expert witnesses. Mickey has successfully argued claim construction and venue matters in federal court.
Mickey holds dual B.A. degrees in computer science and music from Southern Methodist University (2001) and received his J.D. from SMU in 2010. Prior to beginning his legal career, Mickey worked as a software/systems engineer in the U.S. defense industry where he developed serial data bus software for the F-16 fighter and communications software for multiple U.S. Army helicopters.

Represented plaintiff in patent litigation involving lighting and shadowing in 3D simulated scenes.
Roller Clutch Tools, LLC v. Lowe’s Companies, Inc. (Eastern District of Texas)
JS Products, Inc. v. Roller Clutch Tools, LLC (District of Nevada)
Represented hand tool manufacturer as plaintiff in patent infringement litigation against Lowe’s, and as defendant in related declaratory judgment action in Nevada.
