Hajir Ardebili

H

ajir Ardebili is a trial lawyer who specializes in litigating complex business, entertainment, media, and intellectual property cases. He also handles employment, false advertising, professional negligence, and real estate disputes, as well as class actions. Hajir has represented clients in a broad array of industries, including film, television, information technology, investment, fashion, pharmaceuticals, nutrition, and construction.

Hajir was named a “Super Lawyer” in 2016, placing him among the top 5% of all practicing lawyers in Southern California. Before that, he was selected to the “Rising Stars” list each year between 2009 and 2015, placing him among the top 2.5% of Southern California lawyers under 40 years of age.

Hajir served as President of the Iranian American Lawyers Association (IALA) in 2015-16, after serving as IALA’s President-Elect in 2014-15, and a Director in 2013-14. During his time on the IALA Board, he expanded collaboration between IALA and other professional organizations, strengthened IALA’s commitment to public service, and enhanced IALA’s professional development and mentoring programs.

Before joining Skiermont Derby LLP, Hajir was special counsel at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP. Prior to Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, Hajir was an associate at Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger LLP.


Representative Matters

Portman v. New Line Cinema Corporation (Los Angeles Superior Court)

Representing New Line, secured the dismissal of an idea theft action concerning the motion picture “Wedding Crashers,” which dismissal was affirmed on appeal.

Spinner v. American Broad. Cos. (Los Angeles Superior Court)

Successfully represented ABC in an idea theft lawsuit arising from the television show “LOST,” the dismissal of which was affirmed on appeal.

Gundlach, et al. v. TCW (Los Angeles Superior Court)

Represented bond fund manager and other former employees of an investment management company in a lawsuit against their former employer, which resulted in a jury verdict of $67 million in the clients’ favor.

County of Orange v. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., et al. (United States District Court, Central District of California)

Represented international information technology company in a lawsuit alleging breach of contract and fraud arising out of a contract for the development of a county property tax management system.

Troll Company A/S v. DIC Entertainment Corporation (American Arbitration Association and United States District Court)

Represented DIC in a four-month arbitration and concurrent federal litigation concerning alleged breach of character license agreements, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty, among other claims, regarding Classic Troll dolls.

In Plain Sight Media, Inc., et al. v. City of Los Angeles, et al. (United States District Court, Central District of California)

Represented IPSM in a First Amendment challenge to an ordinance restricting the placement of supergraphic signs on the exterior of the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, securing a preliminary injunction against the enforcement of the ordinance at issue, which led to its repeal.

Forker v. U Evolution LLC, et al. (Los Angeles Superior Court)

Represented health and fitness company and company’s founder in an employment, breach of contract, and fraud action against a former member of the company.

Farren Music America v. Warner Bros. Entertainment, et al. (United States District Court, Central District of California)

Represented television production and broadcasting companies in a copyright infringement action concerning the program “Dark Blue.”

Warner Home Video v. IWMB, Inc., et al. (Los Angeles Superior Court)

Represented Warner Home Video in a conversion and fraud case involving the disposition of excess inventory of DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

Rita Watnick v. Coast Corvette (Orange County Superior Court)

Represented a collector of vintage automobiles against a restoration company in a breach of contract, conversion, and fraud case, first-chairing a jury trial and securing a verdict and award of damages in favor of the collector.
